World StageNationalAfrica's first Games — the goal
South Africa sets its sights on hosting Africa's first Olympic Games

South Africa has formally signalled its ambition to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Government approved the pursuit of a future Games bid and SASCOC has engaged the International Olympic Committee, with planning focused on the 2040 Games. Early concepts envisage Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban sharing hosting duties in what would be the first Olympic Games on African soil. South Africa's track record — the 1995 Rugby World Cup, 2010 FIFA World Cup, and the first African G20 Summit in 2025 — shows a country that delivers on the world stage.
