Greater Tzaneen named South Africa's cleanest municipality

Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) in Mopani District, Limpopo, was recognised as the cleanest municipality in the country at the National Waste Management Awards ceremony held in Bloemfontein on 19 March 2026. The award recognises consistent cleanliness standards, active community engagement and effective waste management. GTM was also named winner of Limpopo's Greenest Municipality Competition. The recognition shows what is possible when local government, residents and businesses pull in the same direction — and offers a model other municipalities can follow.
